Constructor Group is a global research, education, and technology ecosystem focused on advancing fundamental technologies that will shape the future — spanning generative AI, Meta Presence, computing, robotics, energy, health and bio, and neuroscience. Its three interconnected pillars — Constructor Knowledge, Constructor Capital, and Constructor Tech — unite science, education, investment, and innovation under a single mission: to solve tomorrow’s critical challenges, from environmental sustainability and public health to global security and equitable access to education.
As part of the larger Constructor ecosystem, Virtuozzo provides a robust cloud platform enabling service providers to deploy flexible, high-performance private, public, or hybrid cloud environments. When Constructor Group decided to transition from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo, it required a migration approach that would be fast, reliable, and seamless—ensuring business continuity and optimizing cloud operations across its ecosystem.
To facilitate this move, Constructor Group leveraged Hystax Acura, an automated cloud migration and disaster recovery platform designed for complex digital transformation projects. Using Hystax Acura, the team successfully migrated virtual machines from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo in just two weeks, with minimal manual effort and no disruption to critical workloads.
This rapid and efficient migration demonstrates how Hystax Acura’s automation capabilities, combined with Virtuozzo’s flexible cloud infrastructure, empower organizations like Constructor Group to modernize their environments, increase autonomy, and streamline operations as they build the technologies of the future.
Constructor Group wanted to bring key workloads closer to its own ecosystem and under a platform it could fully control and optimize. Running in Google Cloud had helped the organization scale quickly at the initial stage, but it also introduced challenges around long-term cost, platform dependency, and architectural fragmentation across different environments.
The primary objectives of the migration project were to:
In short, Constructor Group needed a proven, low-risk path off Google Cloud that would preserve service quality while improving operational efficiency and control.
Constructor Group relied on systems tightly connected to internal teams, platforms, and ongoing projects, so any downtime or data loss would have directly impacted daily work. Simply shutting everything down, rebuilding environments, and switching over wasn’t an option.
Key challenges included:
⚠️ Zero disruption requirement: Many workloads were expected to remain available throughout the migration, making traditional “lift-and-shift with downtime” approaches unacceptable.
⚠️ Platform differences: Moving from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo required changes across infrastructure, networking, and storage that needed to be handled cleanly and consistently.
⚠️ Limited appetite for manual effort: Rebuilding or reconfiguring virtual machines by hand would increase risk, extend timelines, and consume valuable engineering resources.
⚠️ Need for predictability: Constructor Group needed complete visibility into the migration process, with the ability to run tests, validate results, and choose the right moment for final cutover.
To meet these requirements, the team needed an automated migration solution that supports cross-cloud moves with orchestration, continuous replication, and robust testing.
After evaluating options, Constructor Group selected Hystax Acura as the migration engine for moving workloads from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo. Hystax Acura’s fully automated approach and compatibility with Virtuozzo aligned well with the project’s requirements for speed, control, and minimal risk.
Working together with Hystax and Virtuozzo, Constructor Group implemented the following approach:
1. Assess and plan
They analyzed workloads, dependencies, and network requirements, then defined clear migration waves and priorities.
2. Replicate without interruption
Hystax Acura continuously replicated data from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo in the background, keeping target workloads closely in sync with production.
3. Automate migration steps
Migration plans were created in the Acura console to enable the platform to orchestrate replication, test launches, and end-to-end cutover.
4. Test before going live
Multiple non-disruptive test runs on Virtuozzo allowed the team to verify performance, networking, policies, and application behavior without affecting users.
5. Cut over with near-zero downtime
After validation, the team scheduled a cutover during a low-usage window. Because the data was already in sync, switching production traffic was quick and smooth.
With Hystax Acura, Constructor Group gained a fully automated migration process with minimal manual work, backed by continuous data replication to Virtuozzo ahead of go-live. The team had full control over testing and cutover, with clear visibility into every step and a migration path tightly aligned with Virtuozzo as their strategic platform.
By using Hystax Acura to migrate from Google Cloud to Virtuozzo, Constructor Group achieved all of its key objectives within a very short timeframe.
✅ Fast time to completion
The migration was completed in just a couple of days from initial setup to final cutover, including several non-disruptive test runs to validate everything in advance.
✅ Zero disruption to critical workloads
Continuous replication and an orchestrated cutover meant users didn’t notice the move. Applications stayed online and responsive throughout the transition.
✅ Minimal manual effort for internal teams
Automation removed most of the heavy lifting. Instead of rebuilding systems or troubleshooting low-level issues, the Constructor Group team focused on checks, validation, and fine-tuning.
✅ A unified, ecosystem-aligned platform
With workloads now running on Virtuozzo, Constructor Group has tighter integration with the rest of the Constructor ecosystem, stronger control over its infrastructure, and a platform better aligned with its long-term strategy.
✅ A reusable migration blueprint
The combination of Virtuozzo and Hystax Acura has given Constructor Group a clear, repeatable model for future migrations — whether moving more services off hyperscalers or consolidating workloads from other environments.
Constructor Group is an international ecosystem spanning research, education, and technology, with a focus on foundational innovations such as AI, computing, robotics, and life sciences. Through its integrated structure, the group supports the development and deployment of technologies for academic, industrial, and societal impact.
