Frequently asked questions

How often to update DR plans?
It is better to keep DR plans updated every 2-3 weeks so it is up-to-date in case of accident.
How to group machines correctly and why should I create groups?
Groups are necessary for logical combination of machines. Association principles can be different: general purpose of machines, geographical location, general rules for storing snapshots and replication schedule. Particularly important and convenient groups feature is the ability to manage common parameters of replication schedule and snapshot storage rules at a time, that significantly simplifies flexible configuration of business application replication.
What should be installed on customer side to start infrastructure replication?
On customer side just install and run replication agents on each ESXi host in VMware vSphere installation or agents of guest Windows and Linux operating systems. Each VMware agent will be responsible for replicating machines on its host, which will allow to optimize and make replication process more reliable. The agent is downloaded through replication wizard of Acura Control Panel, where the agent type, replication group and the settings to access VMware vSphere are specified.
It is necessary to create a system user with limited rights to view and edit resources. How can I do that?
The system supports flexible roles management and accessible actions within them, contact solution administrator to create a role with necessary access parameters and add users to it. Detailed overview of the functionality can be found in the section ACP – Settings – Role Management.
How to set replication schedule for critical parts of business application and snapshot retention rules?
Settings for schedules and snapshot storage policies can be carried out for all machines as well as for individual groups and individual machines. Detailed overview of the functionality can be found in the section ACP – Machine groups – Managing replication schedule and snapshot storage policies.
How to protect a machine to a specific availability zone?
In the preparation of the DR plan, just add one parameter ‘availability_zone’:’name’ and enter the desired value there.
There are several machines that should get a static IP in the target cloud, where can I configure that?
During the creation of DR plan, it is possible to configure networks after adding a machine. Insert a static IP for the machine to the field ‘Port IP’
How can I change retention policies?
Retention policies give the ability to set the amount of time before restore points, stored in the target cloud, are automatically deleted. Retention job runs as soon as a new replication takes place and uses UTC time to clean up the data. It is possible to edit retention policies on the level of separate machines, group or general settings. If you want to edit the settings of separate machines, then to edit settings click ‘Edit retention policies’ in the menu ‘Actions’. If you want to edit the settings of machines group, then to edit settings click ‘Edit retention policies’ in the menu of separate groups.
Why does the first step of the initial configuration take a long time?
During the initial configuration Acura checks an ability to work with the target cloud – creates Hystax Cloud Agent, with the help of which the data will be transferred to the cloud, and a test volume, so all the procedure takes some time.
While creating a cloud site the ‘Error’ status appears. How can I fix that?
Check events in Acura Control Panel with the detailed description of an issue. Try to fix the problem yourself if possible, if not, contact the support service.
During the protection of the machine the ‘Error’ status appears. How can I fix that?
Enable debug logs, start a new replication, check the logs with the detailed description of an issue. Try to fix the problem yourself if possible. Contact the support service if any additional help is required.
How to replicate a machine to have the volume type ‘ssd’ in the target cloud?
Device overlays can be used to set custom volume type. The settings must be updated before the replication begins. Go to the Customer page, click on ‘…’ button (opposite the machine name), click ‘Edit Replication Settings’ and specify required volume type in the appropriate field.
