At the end of August 2024, Hystax company released the next 4.2 release of its software product, Hystax Acura, which includes significant changes and enhancements for cloud migration, disaster recovery, and cloud backup.
Many changes and improvements were made to all components of the Hystax Acura solution, and hundreds of comments and suggestions from users and partners were taken into account for all scenarios of the solution usage.
An external replication agent for the OpenStack platform with Ceph as the storage backend for Cinder was integrated.
The Hystax team significantly enhanced the quality of data compression during replication, improved the interface logs and alerts, and added the ability to set network bandwidth limits at the virtual machine group level.
It is also possible to trigger a migration to a new platform with an automatic pre-take increment before switching, implemented through the new Cloud Site startup mode by creating a new restore point. It helps speed up the cloud migration process and reduce manual actions when switching.
Cloud migration from the VMware platform has also undergone qualitative changes. The VM Power Management option allows the VMware External Agent to power on/off machines at the beginning and end of replication.
In addition, during the Hystax Acura 4.2 release, support for the snapshot-less mode was added for the cloud migration case. This mode is useful for migrating to clouds with slow volume snapshot creation processes. For example, such a snapshot-less mode was created for OpenStack clouds, storage systems that do not provide sufficient speed to create disks from snapshots.
Besides, replication support by the internal agent for Linux systems with kernel version 5.15 and newer is a long-awaited realization for many Hystax Acura users. The Hystax Acura developers have extended the compatibility with Linux, and now the internal replication agent supports kernel versions up to 6.9. In addition to this, the P2V/V2V conversion algorithm for RHEL/CentOS/AlmaLinux has been greatly improved. The Hystax Acura solution now supports the latest RHEL and its many clones.
